CHUNGKING, January 2

A Chinese military spokesman said it looked as if^the Japanese were now launching a general offensive against China.

"We welcome it," he said. "This will enable us to dissipate the enemy's strength. Both sides must suffer, but the Japanese are at a disadvantage because they cannot afford to lose as much manpower as China."
