NEW YEAR'S EVE IN NEW YORK
NEW YORK, January 1
New York celebrated its traditional noisy New Year's Eve despite the war.
The usual crowd of 200,000 thronged Times Square, which this year, in view of. possible air raids, was guarded by ■ more than 2000 policemen and 1600 air wardens.. . , / . An enormous loudspeaker was erect-'1 ed to direct the crowd in case of an emergency. Huge signs read: "In case of an alarm, walk. Dotft run."
