ALLEGED ROBBERIES

Complaints of three robberies in the New Year holidays have been received by the police.
Robert Williams, aged 68, pensioner, Arch Hill, complained that he had £185 in a belt round his body when he entered a hotel on Wednesday afternoon. He accepted an invitation to a party in a private house and left the hotel in a taxi with the others. His memory was indistinct, he said, but he awoke early yesterday on a couch in a strange house. The belt of money and a ring were missing. A woman ordered him to leave. He found himsejf in Ireland Street, Ponsonby, with abrasions on his head and ears. He returned home and reported the matter to the police.
A Chinese laundryman in Symonds Street was accosted* and assaulted late on Wednesday night and robbed of a few shillings. A third man was allegedly robbed of eight shillings.
The police arrested a young man, who has been remanded.
