FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TAKES CONTROL

MELBOURNE, December 14.

The Commonwealth Government has taken over control of the State railways, according to an announcement by the Minister. of Transport, Mr. Lawson. The railways will be administered by a War Railways Committee. Mr. Lawson said this action would provide for complete co-ordination between the Army and the Transport Department. - \

The visit to America and England of the Federal Parliamentary delegation was suddenly cancelled by the Prime Minister, Mr. Curtin, .yesterday, twenty minutes before the members were due to leave Hobart.

The Sacred Heart Girls' College, Lower Hutt, closed its school year last week, when the prizes were presented by the Rev. L. Daly. The dux of the school is Moira Ross.
