COMPENSATION FOR LAND

A gross sum of £737, including interest, has been granted by a Compensation Court to Mrs. Catherine Elizabeth Clayton, a widow, as compensation for land taken by proclamation at Epuni, in the Hutt Valley, for housing purposes, arid for injurious affection of other land adjacent to the land taken. Her claim, against the Minister of Public Works, was for £548 for the value of the land, and £500 for injurious , affection of land on which stands'a fibrous plaster factory- - The Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) presided, and had with him as assessors Mr. W. H. Leighton and Mr. Dunbar Sloane. Mr. E. F. Rothwell appeared for. the claimant and Mr. J. ! Prendeville for the respondent.
