Mr. H. A Beauchamp has returned by air from Dunedin. The Rt. Rev W. J. Simkin. Anglican Bishop of Auckland, will arrive in Wellington today from Napier, where he took an ordination service, and wilt attend the meeting of the, executive of the Board of Missions tomorrow. Advice has been received that Acting Regimenlal-Sergeant-Major R. H Blanshar.d. M;B.E.. is a prisoner ol war. -He--Was- posted as missing u< June, but his mother in Wellington lias now received a letter from him stating that he is a- prisoner and wasto br transferred from Crete to the mainland. ..■-.-.

Mr. c. H- Bass left. Wellington last night, 'en route for Australia.

Mr. R. D. Vincent, who has been cit> paymaster of Christchurch for twenty two and a half years, has retired. He was tendered a social function at which the Mayor (Mr. E- H. Andrews) presided. Many present and past council lor? attended Tributes were paid to Mr. Vincent, and on behali of the council and" staff the Mayor presented him with a leather armchair, a pipe, and a tobacco pouch.

Sir Theodore Rigg will leave for Nelson by the JMatangi tonight.
