UNENROLLED RESERVIST

In imposing fines of £25 each upon Certified Concrete, Ltd., and Ryans, Ltd., for employing an unenrolled reservist, Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today commented that they had been lax in not ascertaining the status of the reservist, Dominic Paul Bradley, who was fined £10 for failing to enrol. Mr. G. H. A. Swan, for Certified Concrete, Ltd., and Mr. T. P. McCarthy, for Ryans, Ltd., explained that the firms thought that Bradley was a married man. and for that reason did not insist on his producing a certificate of enrolment. The Magistrate said that the firms should have asked him to produce a marriage certificate. Mr. G. C. Kent appeared for,; Bradley whom he said had not enrolled because of some fear he had about the consequences of not paying unemployment levies in the past. He had no intention of evading military service, and was now enrolled and accepted for military service.
