Pioneer Club's Bridge Party

! There were 29 tables of players at the Pioneer Club last night when the club's bridge circle held its final party for the year. The rooms were gay with wall arrangements of irises and with bowls of, peony roses. Lovely flowers were given to the president, |Mx's. J. T. NichollSj and a ition of six crystal goblets was made to [ the organiser, Mrs. F. McAuley, and a j tribute paid to her enthusiastic work on the circle's behalf. This circle has been instrumental, in raising a large ! amount of money for patriotic" purposes. Mrs. McAuley was also given a bouquet of roses. The prize for the highest score for the year was won by Mrs. Houstih. ' ' Th£ Red Cross "Shop." ; The Red Cross Social Club's annual "shop" for normal activities promises to be an outstanding success, judging by the large stock of handknitted toys, children's garments, dainty gift novelties, cakes, jams, produce, etc. The club members have had a busy year doing their share in making up hospital, and air-raid victim parcels, contributing "to the sick and wounded funds, and giving service generously when called upon. The "shop" is advertised in today's paper. '•;■ Special Appeal on Friday. : The Hataitai Women's Auxiliary of the R.SiA. will conduct a "shop day" on Friday, when donations and contributions in aid of funds for the R.S.A. services premises appeal will be gratefully received. The shop..wili be held in Manners Street and the amount | raised will supplement the Hataitai district quota of £450 towards the £30,000 services appeal. Volunteers. Asked For. The Christmas party of the Lower Hutt branch of the Dominion Federation of Townsworrien's Guilds saw the R.S.A. clubrooms crowded to capacity Mrs. C. Young was in the chair, and was assisted by Mrs. Finlayson, who arranged the party. A large quantity of jam and a donation of £3 5s was sent to the Merchant Navy. Over '£4 was" taken, at, the. patriotic stall. JVJxsL J..jt>.. King XE.P.S.) -demonstrated camouflage nets and asked for members to assist in making them. The Taita choir entertained with gipsy songs and dances, the guild choir also gangland the drama circle contributed an amusing',sketch. The Catholic Services Club. Another record attendance was registered" at the Catholic Services Club during the weekend, when the four! Services were widely represented. The rooms, which have just been renovated, were attractively decorated with I lilies and greenery. Women supporters -in Shannon and Tokomaru for-' warded an excellent hamper of provisions, which, included roast chicken, roast lamb and mint sauce, roast beef, corned beef, a good supply of vegetables, and a variety of sweets. The ladies' auxiliary of the Marist Old Boys' Association was in charge of the weekend arrangements at the club and at tea on Sunday evening a beautiful iced cake was cut by a soldier who was celebrating his twenty-first birthday.
