A.R.P. IN AUSTRALIA

CURTIN REPLIES TO BLAMEY

CANBERRA, November 19

The Prime Minister, Mr. J. Curtin, today revealed himself as at variance with Lieu tenant-General Sir Thomas Blarney on A.R.P. policy and bomb risks in Australia. Mr. Curtin said: "I cannot share the 'illusion' that what has happened in other countries cannot happen here." He said the Commonwealth intended to take no risks and that the Government would this week allocate £125,000 to all States for air-raid precautions. This constituted the second instalment of £500,000 promised by the last Government

General Blarney said that the money being spent in Australia was out of all proportion to the risk which was very limited.
