BOXING ON THURSDAY.

Professional boxing title contests are by no means frequent in New Zealand at the present ti.ne, and consequently special interest attaches to the bout for the light-heavyweight championship, which is to be held at the Wellington Town Hall next Thursday night between Cliff Hanham (holder) and George Allen. These two met in a great fight for the title last year and the decision in • Hanham's favour aroused considerable controversy. An exceptionally fine programme of amateur preliminaries has been drawn up, as it includes several return matches between finalists in the recent championships. The bouts are:—F. Moyes v. F. Southee; H. Carbin v. E. Colvin; L. Philp v. H. Allott; L. Domney v. J. Morgan; F. Archer v. K. Cox; and E. Hanson v. A. Thompson. The reserve contests include a bout between Sergeant Walker and M. Turner.
