SHAKESPEARE SOCIETY

The Wellington Shakespeare Society read "As You Like It" before an interested audience this week at the New Zealand Educational Rooms. The romantic parts of Rosalind and Orlando were well read by Miss Janet Stirling and F. Pears; and the parts of the humorous lovesick Audrey and Touchstone in the Forest of Arden were taken by Mrs. I. A. Bagnall and J. P. Nicol. Mrs. J. K. Edie, in her taunting speech to Silvius, scored a success. Contemporary double parts were taken by W. O. Phillips, as melancholy Jacques and Charles, and William and Adam were represented by E. C. Harvie. Other parts taken were as follows:—Celia, Mrs. W. A. Millar; Corin, Miss R. Carte; Le Beau, Mrs. W. Scammell; First Lord, Mrs. C. G. Bloore; Sir Rowland de Bois, Mrs. R. L. Davies; Duke Frederick, C. G. Bloore; Duke S., C. G. Bloore; Oliver, W. A. Millar; Silvius, S. F. McLean.

Mrs. J. K. Edie produced the reading and Mrs. R. L. Davies read stage directions. The accompanist was Miss Nola Pritchard.
