LESS RACING

In United Kingdom

According to information made available today, before the war 333 flat race meetings and 256 race meetings under National Hunt rules were held annually in the United Kingdom. In 1941 there were only 86 flat race meetings and 34 race meetings under National Hunt rules. In 1941,1385 horses were in training for flat races while less than 700 were in training under National Hunt rules. Before the war runners alone numbered 6700 in flat race" meetings and 4408 in races under National Hunt rules.

Figures for total numbers of horses in training before the war are not immediately available, but they were naturally considerably higher than the numbers of horses actually run.
