BOTTLE IN STOMACH

RESULT OF A SNEEZE

BOY UNDERGOES OPERATION

(P.A.)

AUCKLAND, October 31

A bottle, measuring 5£ inches and embedded in the lower portion of his stomach, was removed from a boy. aged 14, who resides at Great North Road. The operation lasted ten minutes. The boy, Ken Rogerson, had the bottle in his mouth, and while sneezing drew it into his stomach. He did not inform his parents for a fortnight, as he desired to compete in a cycling race, and it was only after the race that he felt occasional pain.

On informing his mother, he was taken to hospital, where an X-ray revealed the bottle in the lower portion of the stomach, embedded so as not to interfere with the digestive organs. The operation was performed under a local anaesthetic. "

His only regret now, the boy said, was that he would be unable to cycle for a fortnight.
