I When Commodore W,. E. Parry spoke one night this week at a gathering of the Wellington branch of the Overseas League he delivered a message from her Excellency Lady Newall who had received a letter from Mr. Eric Rice, of the Overseas" League in London, commenting on the league's popularity with Empire troops.

The Commodore and his wife were welcomed by Sir Michael Myers, president of the recently-revived Wellington branch, and by Mr. W. Appleton, chairman. The latter told of .the league's work in , England where £158,000 had been raised-so far for the purchase of comforts for servicemen and to provide hospitality for Empire men on leave in London. He would like, he said, to see the Wel-

lington League rival the efforts being made by the Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin branches.

Items were given by Mrs. C. Fuller ('cello), Miss Ina Rapley and Mr. Roy Hill (songs), and Miss Mary Butler (monologues). The accompanist was" Miss Norah Gray. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. H. A. Kirkcaldie, Mrs. C. Fuller, and Mrs. C. Nichols, and Miss Mary Butler and Miss Ruth Putnam.
