SHOCKING MASSACRES

PURGE OF JEWS

GERMANY AND POLAND

FRENCH WORKERS BOMBED

(By Telegraph—Press Association—CopyriSSM-R LONDON, October. 30. Renter's learns from Polish sources that German S.S. troops lately massacred more than 1000 Jews near Lomza. The Jews were ordered to descend into trenches and were forced to kneel In rows of three abreast, whereupon they were machine-gunned. A similar massacre of severaf hundred Jews is reported from Rzeszow, southern Poland. A Jewish purge in Germany is reported from Berlin by an American journalist. He says that many hundreds have been sent out of the capital in the past ten days. Several hundreds have been sent to an eastern destination somewhere in Poland. The correspondent says that the Jews were assembled in a goods yard in a Berlin suburb. The police tried to make their departure as inconspicuous as possible. A neutral journalist was not allowed within 100 yards of the scene. From Free French sources in this country come stories showing how the new order is working in France. About three weeks ago, when 200 factory workers in a northern industrial town went to protest against the nonpayment of their wages, they were surrounded by soldiers; driven to an enclosure, and then bombed by German planes. This incident took place soon after a British raid on the district. Free French sources say that the Nazis* idea was to be able to lay the blame on the R.A.F., but several eye-wit-nesses saw and heard the German machines. EXECUTIONS OF CZECHS. r It is learned in London that nine Czechs were executed in Czechoslovakia , today for alleged sabotage. Herr Himmler, Nazi Chief of Police, has arrived at Prague. Rome radio states that several persons have been shot in Yugoslavia for alleged responsibility for the sinking of an Italian merchantman. Their accomplices were sentenced to from 23 to 30 years' imprisonment. Moscow states that 108 Yugoslavs were shot for sabotage. A Russian report also says that sabotage and rioting are increasing in Rumania, many deserters have been shot, an important Bucharest arms factory is practically at a standstill, and seven trains have .been dertailed in four days. ; A Belgian correspondent of "The' Times" says that one of the most curious signs of the spirit of resistance in Belgium against the Nazis is a growth in the number of secret newspapers, of which there are at present 40 in different parts of Belgium. AH the secret newspapers are solidly antiGerman, in spite of differences on, other subjects. • One of them, the Brussels "Libre Belgique," says that the Rexists t and Flemish Nationalists, who alone are supporting collaboration with Germany, have a total registered membership of only 7500. It adds: "These official traitors thus represent hardly one per 1000 of the population." According to the Swedish newspaper "Ny Dag," the Germans have shot 200 French hostages in recent months, while more than 2000 Frenchmen have been imprisoned. In spite of this repression, "every policeman fears for his life, as the shooting of traitors and Fascist agents is a daily occurrence.'* A message from Vichy says that an unidentified man, carrying a knife, was arrested in the grounds of the home of M. Laval, former French Prime Minister.
