PUTS INTO SHANGHAI

NAZI SHIP UNDER JAPANESE

FLAG

(Rec. 2 p.m.) SHANGHAI, Oct. 28,

A former German merchantman, the Quito, manned by a German crew, but flying the Japanese merchant and military flags, has arrived from Yokohama.

The ship is camouflaged, with the name painted out., Naval circles believe the Quito has been used as a supply ship for Southern Pacific raiders, and expressed the belief that she was forced into Shanghai by the shortage of supplies in Japan.

The Quito apparently does not mount guns for raiding.
