PEOPLE OF NANTES
Signals to RI.F. Bombers
LONDON, October 28,
The people of Nantes, unbroken by the German terror, gave a great welcome to R.A.F. bombers which raided the docks on Sunday night. Although a cordon of German troops ringed the town, lights flashed out from house after house as the bombers roared over. Doors were flung open and houses suddenly blazed with lights as if the black-out curtains had been ripped from the windows. One of the pilots saw the V sign marked out on the ground with oil lamps. Another house opened its doors and switched its lights on and off till half the bombers had gone.
High explosives and incendiaries were dropped on the docks and German shipping, and for the people of Nantes the planes dropped thousands of leaflets.
