TEACHERS IN ARMY
WORK AS CLERKS
OBJECTION BY BOARD
Objection to the taking by the military authorities of teachers for employment on clerical work in the Army was expressed by members of the Wellington College Board of Governors at its meeting yesterday afternoon.
The board adopted the following motion, moved by Mr. W. V. Dyer, to define its policy on the matter: "That the board will make no appeal where its teachers are required for definite military duties either inside or outside New Zealand, but where it is a matter of doing clerical work the board considers that the men be drawn from some other walk of life without causing as much interruption as is caused in the schools."
Mr. Dyer said he knew of a teacher being taken to work as a pay clerk.,
The chairman (Mr. L. W. McKenzie) said he understood that one of the board's teachers on military duty was doing clerical work,
