USE OF UNIFORM
MAN'S RIGHT QUESTIONED
Described as a soldier and engraver, William Scholes, aged 51, appeared in the Supreme Court yesterday, in battle dress, for sentence on nine charges of false pretences. The Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) asked if any military officer was present who wished to say anything, and Mr. W. R. Birks, for the Crown, said he was informed that Scholes had now been discharged from the Army.
His Honour: .If he has been discharged from the Army he should not be in uniform.
Mr. Birks: Apparently that is the only clothing he has. The prisoner, who was on licence after having been previously declared a habitual criminal, was sentenced to eighteen months' hard labour on each charge, the terms to be concurrent.
