DESERT PATROLS

EMPIRE ACTIVITY CONTINUES

(Rec. 11 a.m.) RUGBY, October 7.

A Cairo General Headquarters communique states that on the night of October 5-6 and throughout yesterday until a dust storm again interfered with visibility, patrols were active in all sectors and much useful information was obtained from two Italian prisoners captured.

On each occasion when contact was made the enemy hurriedly withdrew after sustaining casualties. In the frontier area patrolling is continuing.

On the night of October 5-6 a patrol returning from a raid deep into enemy territory was overwhelmed by a party of the enemy in considerable strength, supported by guns. One oflScer and eight other ranks are missing.—B.O.W.
