MR. CURTIN'S PLEDGE
WHAT LABOUR WILL DO
(By Telegraph—Press • Association —Copyright.) (Rec. 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 7. At a crowded meeting in the Sydney Town Hall tonight, the new Prime Minister (Mr. J. Curtin), in his first public address, launched the £100,000,000 war and conversion loan. He said that the Labour Government had willingly accepted the obligation and the legacy of waging: the war to the limit of Australia's capacity and to a suecessful conclusion. He knew what the Australian people wanted. They wanted the country to be properly organised. They wanted the Government to do the things requisite for waging and winning the war. On behalf of the Labour Government he said that that would be done with full appreciatibn of what it would mean to the sons and daughters of Australia. Mr. A. W. Fadden, the former Prime Minister, in a similar stirring appeal, called upon the community to present a united front, to eschew party politics, and to subordinate everything to the effort to help to win the war. The chairman announced that all banks and financial institutions had signified the intention of converting their loans. In addition several, had announce'd the intention of subscribing new money. :
