PRESSURE ON THAILAND
DEMANDS BY BRITAIN
AND U.S.A.
VERSION IN TOKIO
(By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright.)
(Rec. noon.) NEW YORK, Oct. 7. An increasing belief that United States and British diplomacy is driving, a wedge between Japan and Thailand is reflected in the Japanese Press, says the Tokio correspondent of the Associated Press,
The "Yomiuri Shimbun" prints a dispatch from Bangkok which says that the Singapore conferences formulated the following demands: First, that Thailand shall give a specific assurance of her neutrality; second, that Britain shall be given priority for vital raw materials; third, that pro-Axis tendencies in Thailand shall be eradicated.
The "Kokumin Shimbun" described the conferences at Singapore and Hong Kong as "a threat to the establishment of the co-prosperity sphere," and warned that Japan would not remain indifferent to them.
The "Asahi Shimbun" quoting its Manila correspondent, said that the discussions there concerned joint aerial action and the strengthening of the anti-Japan encirclement front.
