NAZI SOUTHERN PUSH

LONDON, October 7,

The southern fork of the German thrust towards Moscow has apparently made some progress, and fighting is reported to be particularly fierce in the direction of Vyazma and Bryansk.

This is the first official Russian news of the new German two-pronged offensive which, has Moscow as its objec-

tive. Vyazma is on the SmolenskMoscow railway, and is 130 miles southwest of the'capital. Bryansk is 220 miles south-west of Moscow.

North of Murmansk, the Russians sank a German transport of 7000 tons. Moscow reports that the defenders of Odessa have routed a force of up to four Rumanian divisions.
