BROTHER & SISTER CHARGED
The theft of household articles valued at £40 from Oscar Lamberg was admitted by Lena Wills, a married woman, in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. She was placed on probation for twelve months by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M. Her brother, Alexander Graham, aged 31, a rigger, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour for receiving from her goods valued at £15, the property of Oscar Lamberg, knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. He pleaded not guilty to the charge, and alsr to an alternative charge of stealing the goods, which the Magistrate dismissed. Mr. A. J. Mazengarb appeared for both accused.
The prosecution alleged that Mrs. Wills rented a house from Lamberg and removed some of the household effects which the owner had stored there, and that some of them were found in Graham's possession.
Mrs. Wills admitted taking the articles in respect of which she was charged.
Graham's defence was that the articles found in his possession were given to him by his sister, and that he did not know they were stolen.
