POLICY OF SYRIA
GOVERNMENT STATEMENT
LONDON, October 5
The Government of Syria, which is now an independent sovereign State, has issued a declaration of policy. The statement reviews the struggle for freedom since 1917 and expresses gratitude to the British and French for their prompt recognition of Syria's independence. Diplomatic representatives will soon be sent abroad.
The Government's policy will be the. maintenance of public liberties and internal security and development of trade relations with neighbouring countries.

A Vichy dispatch says that the last party of French to be repatriated from Syria, numbering nearly 2000, has reached- Marseilles.
