SYDNEY, October 4
Both this year's A.J.C, Derby and Epsom Handicap at Randwick were fine races by reason of the uniformity in class, the number of starters, and the fact that the popular choice carried off the Derby. The Victorian Laureate justified antlcipastions by capturing the Derby in rather hollow fashion., Yaralla, though well fancied and given every chance, failed to stay the distance. Of the others Chatham's Choice shaped best. Cloudy Bay was a dismal failure. The Epsom Handicap produced a thrilling finish witb Rimveil snatching victory on the post from High Caste, whose weight Just beat him. The redoubtable Beau Vite lived up to his great reputation by winning the Colin Stephen Stakes witb a minimum of effort. Tha principal results were:— FIRST HURDLE HANDICAP, £400; about 2 miles. P. H.
