SOLDIERS' DEPENDANTS

In a notice o«tuestion addressed to the Prime MinKfer in the House of Representatives yesterday, Mr. J. A. Lee (Democratic Labour, Grey Lynn) asked if it were not possible to secure some method whereby the wives and children dependent on soldiers' allotted pay could have their necessitous circumstances immediately referred to the Social Security Department and that the Department could be given power to maintain the wives' and children's income in the event of the soldier having his pay reduced for disciplinary purposes. Mr. Lee said that while no one could justify payment to a soldier who was defaulting in his obligations his wife and children should not suffer.
