JUVENILES AT MASTERTON
Included in the twenty-three juve- j niles nominated for the Longbush Nursery Handicap at the Masterton Meeting are thirteen youngsters whose breeding has been previously reviewed. Occupying the head of the handicap is j Damask, winner of the Wanganui De- . butant Stakes, and then at intervals of 21b come Gynerio, runner-up to Indian Sign at Carterton, and Broadcaster, who filled third berth that same afternoon. The newcomers are:— SAMARRA: A cnestnut gelding by Theio from the Hunting Song—Scarab mare Arab Song, dam also of Tidal Song, Nereus, Fundy Bay, and Arabian Night. As a yearling Samarra was offered at the National Sales by Mr. F. B. Donnelly, of Hastings, but he was passed in at 120 guineas. WINA: A chestnut colt by Pink Coat from the Gay Lad —Hot-Air mare All Smiles, dam also of Beamer and Smile Again. The grandam, who was by All Red from Aerina, was a good winner in the south, and Aerina was unbeaten as a two-year-old. This is the family to which General Soult, Marshal Soult. Grenadier, Muskerina (ancestress of Te Kara), Limarch, King March, etc., belong. SOLVER: A bay colt by Vermeer from the Lucullus —Persis mare Lady Lois, dam also of Susan, Penzance, and Kentucky. Persis was the dam of those good performers Tuahine, Nucleus. Gay Seton, Gay Sister, Gay Chief. Vitement, etc. This colt was bought at the National Sales by Mr. S. H. Gilmer, of Napier, who secured him at 325 guineas. RINK: A brown colt by Ringmaster from the Limond—Pennon mare Impetuous, thus a full-brother to Master Hotspur, and half-brother to Impos-. ture, Elanage, and Tohunga, winner of the Durban Cup in South Africa. Pennon, the grandam, was a half-sister to Commendation, Epitaph, Eulalie, Praise, etc., all being products of the Koatanui Stud of Mr. G. M. Currie, Wanganui. ' . ROYAL COUNSELLOR: A bay colt by Solicitor General from the Chief Ruler —Nottava mare Chief ava, a winner in Australia and sister to Miss Nottava .and Gesture. Nottava, who was by Solferina from Stepka, is a half-sister to Anitea, dam of Rapier, and Stepka was a half-sister to Elevation, Reputation, Provocation, etc. Royal Counsellor was bought at the National Sales for 240 guineas by Messrs. F. H. Barrell, of Wellington, and T. J. Evans, of Feilding. CRACKERJACK: A bay colt by Gynerium from the Laughing Prince —Mandane mare Gay Molly, the dam being a half-sister to La Bru, who showed great promise as a two-year-old, but who failed to stand racing. t Gay Molly was herself a winner, even though she did not reach the heights of her dam,. Mandane. The colt was purchased at the Sales by Mrs. A. A. Stichbury at 220 guineas. ■ DALESMAN: A chestnut colt by St. Boswells from the Lord WardenDutch Money mare Yale, the ,dam being a half-sister to the useful-south-erner Not Out. Both Yale and Dutch Money had restricted racing careers, but eaclv were winners, and one pi the latter's successes came in the Camp Handicap at Trentham. Dalesman is held ori lease by Mr. F. Elbe, of Wel--1 VERIFY: A chestnut colt by Vermeer j from the Australian-bred mare Dignified, who wajs by Dignity from the Comedy King mare Queen" Warbler., Dignified is a half-sister to Yodellist, winner of the A.J.C. Members' Handicap, etc., and Queen Warbler was a half-sister to Yaffle, grandam of the Melbourne Cup winner The Trump. This is the same family to which the J Australian sire Heroic claims rela- j * LADY SPIRAL: A bay filly by Spiral from the All Alone—lnlaid (imp.) mare | Mislaid, dam also of Leif, a winner in Australia. Prior to being brought to the Dominion Inlaid was a winner in j England. The filly is held on lease by Miss J. L. Flower, of Palmerstoii North. FOX QUEEN: A brown filly by Foxbridge from the King Lu—Lady Brierly mare Queen Brierly, dam also of Reymack. The dam is a fullsister to Miss Lv, King Brierly, and Queen Brierly, and a half-sister to Musketoon and Master Brierly. She is held on lease by Messrs. D. J. and R. Stormont, of Auckland.
