TRAINS HELD UP
SLIPS ON THE LINE
EXPRESSES DIVERTED
Slips on the Wellington-Johnsonville line^and between Plimmerton and Paekakariki seriously, disorganised railway traffic yesterday afternoon and this morning. It will be a day or so yet before normal traffic on the former line will be resumed, but the Main Trunk line was cleared this morning, and, barring further slips, traffic on it will continue as usual. About 3 p.m. yesterday slips between Wellington and Ngaio put service on that line out of action. Buses were requisitioned and have since then taken passengers between Ngaio and Wellington, the electric trains carrying on the service beyond Ngaio. It is doubtful whether the slips, which are extensive, will be cleared sufficiently to allow trains to run tomorrow between Ngaio and Wellington THROUGH IHE WAIRAK4PA. \ Owing to the slips on the line be-' yond Plimmerton, the express which would normally have reached Wellington today from Auckland at 7 a.m. was diverted via the Wairarapa, and it arrived shortly before noon. Passengers on the Limited, however, were transferred to buses at Paekakariki. The first bus left about 9.10 a.m. and the last about 10 a.m., the journey to Wellington taking an hour. Buses were also used to convey suburban passengers, between Plimmerton and Paekakariki. This morning's Wellington-Napier express was diverted via the Wairarapa, but the New Plymouth express, which leaves later, was sent by the usual route.
