MIDDLE EAST FORCES
GROWTH OF EMPIRE'S POWER
SUPPLIES POUR IN
LONDON, October 2. , General Auchinleck, British Commander-in-Chief Middle East, is carrying out a general reorganisation of Britain's armed forces there in view of their greatly growing strength. It is announced in Cairo that a separate army is to be created in Syria and Palestine, and another for Egypt and the Western Desert, This follows the recent creation of a separate East African Command which is directly under the War Office. Reports state that war material is pouring into the Middle East. Heavily-laden United States ships are leaving America at the rate of one a day, and German bombers operating over the Suez Canal zone fail to prevent their cargoes arriving with clock-like precision. On the other hand, B.A.F. attacks are making the sea route from Italy to North Africa a perilous undertaking for Axis shipping.
