GROWING EVERY DAY
DESTRUCTION BY GUERRILLAS
LONDON, September 29
A Moscow communique says that the guerrilla movement in Yugoslavia is growing daily. Guerrillas attacked German and Italian detachments at Trebinje, killing 93 men and capturing more than 100 rifles and much ammunition. Other guerrillas destroyed the railway between Dubrovnik and Herzegovina.
Guerrillas in another encounter attacked Italians with machine-guns and grenades, killing 153. Others sank one German, and one Italian ship in Dubrovnik harbour.
The Istanbul correspondent of "The Times" says that the Ustashas, the proNazi terrorist movement in northern Yugoslavia, is carrying out a systematic extermination of the Serbian population. About 300,000, including women and children, have already been massacred With refinements of sadistic cruelty, and the entire Serb population has been wiped out in some places in Croatia.
Knowing that they cannot expect mercy from the Ustashas, the Serbs in Croatia and Bosnia are leaving the towns and villages and taking refuge in the mountains under the protection of the patriot Chetniks.
A message from Berne says, it is reported! from Berlin that a man has
been sentenced to death in Nuremberg, Germany, for listening to foreign broadcasts. A Pole was sentenced to death at Grudziadz for a similar offence.
