VALUABLE PAPYRI FOUND

Professor K-irsopp Lake, writing from America, reports the discovery among a number of papyri excavated by Mr. H, D. Colt in the extreme south of Palestine, of a large fragment of the Gospel of St, John, and some part of the Pauline Epistles. The St. John papyrus is of relatively late date, of the sixth or seventh century, or possibly even as late as the eighth, but it is noteworthy as containing a text which is almost identical with that of the Vatican and Sinaitic codices. Papyri have previously been discovered in the desert area in the south of Palestine, where climatic conditions resemble those in Egypt; but these are the first Biblical texts to be reported from this district. Further details will be awaited with interest.
