MONEY FOR SOLDIERS

CRITICISM OF COSTS

"Surely t?iere is some less expensive way of getting money to our soldiers," said Mr. J. O'Brien (Government, Westland) in the House of Representatives yesterday. He said that under the present system 25s sent by a father to his son was subject to a cable cost of 5s and exchange of 4s. "This means," said Mr. O'Brien, "that it cost 9s to get 16s sent to a soldier."

Mr. O'Brien gave notice to ask the Minister of Defence whether he would make arrangements for money sent to soldiers abroad to be paid to the soldier at the least possible expense.
