HELP TO RUSSIA

LABOUR FUND OPENED

(Rec. 12.50 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 25. A national appeal for "Help to Russia" was launched today by the National Council of Labour. A fund has been opened with grants of £1000 from the Trades Union Congress and £250 from the Labour Party.

Orders have already been placed for the early dispatch to Russia of a large consignment of medical supplies.

In the course of its appeal, the National Council of Labour states that although the Government has accepted the responsibility for the fullest possible assistance to the Soviet by supplying munitions, "it is known that the people of this country desire to come into direct participation in a gesture of friendliness and help to our Allies, who are, in combat on a 1500----mile front. Consequently the National Council of Labour has decided to launch an appeal, and particularly to assure the Russian people that even in the war conditions which we are experiencing we are thinking of them and their bereavements and their lost homes, which they burn rather than leave them to the invader, and that we desire to give them practical help."— 8.0.
