PERSONAL NOTES

Sir Harry Batterbee, Wellington, and his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Christopher Batterbee, are visiting Dunedin.

Mrs. Laurie Mackie, Mayoress of Te Aroha, is visiting Wellington, and is the guest of Mrs. E. Mackie, Karori.

Mrs. T. G. Gilbert, Merivale, who has been the guest of Dr. Helen Cowie, Masterton, is now visiting friends in Wellington before returning to Christchurch.

Mrs. Marshall Macdonald left Dunedin yesterday on her return to Wellington.

The death occurred in Marton recently of Mrs. Katherine Anne Newman, wife of Mr, Edward Newman, C.M.G., who was the originator of the New Zealand Sheepowners' Acknowledgment of Debt to British Seamen Fund and a member of Parliament for 14 years till his retirement in 1922. He was a member of the Legislative Council from 1923 to 1930.
