BOOTH, MACDONALD PROFITS.
After payment of £5310 debenture interest, but before providing for taxation, Booth, Macdonald, and Company, Limited, Christchurch, show a profit of £3240 for the year ended June 30, against £5214 last year and £1044 in 1939 on the same basis of comparison. The report states that control of imports has resulted in a decline in business of importing heavy machinery, but sales of locally-manufactured machinery greatly increased. Reorganisation of the company is being continued, but slowness of delivery of raw materials and difficulty in securing supplies are the main problem. As a result of reduction of the value of preference capital to 15s a share the company was able to eliminate the debit item in profit and loss appropriation account. This amount, representing accumulated losses, stood at £36,654 a year ago.
