COMMENT ON RESULT
REVISION COMMITTEE AIMS
"The result is not a little surprising, especially in view of the recent solid vote against affiliation with a political party," said Mr. Allan to a "Post" representative in making comment upon the election. "We are, however, encouraged by the vote of a large body of members who have given us their support, and all reforms advocated by the revision committee will continue to be vigorously pursued. "It is clear," he pointed out, "that there are still some 1500 members who did not exercise their right to vote. We are determined to do all we can to help members to help themselves by encouraging them to take some interest in the affairs of their union."
Deep appreciation of the support accorded them in their fight for the revision of the rules was expressed by Mr. Allan. "We have the satisfaction of knowing," he said, "that the union is no longer affiliated to a political organisation, and we urge all members to keep up their interest in the union's activities. After all, it is the mem-: bejrs who are the union, and its efficient functioning depends entirely, upon the interest members show in the conduct of their affairs. ' , .
"We always' want to have the union conducted by members of the union," he added, "and the revision committee will continue to fight for the best interests of the union as a whole and will welcome the continued active support of all members."
PRONOUNCEMENT CONFIRMED."
On behalf of the executive, the president (Mr. F. P. Walsh) expressed thanks to members "for their action in confirming the pronouncement made at the annual meeting that the present management committee had been elected unopposed." He added: "We wish to assure members that our only concern is for the welfare,of the union and its members, and it is our intention, as in the past, to do all in our p.wer to assist the members during our term of office. "We desire to again point out that the affiliation to» the New Zealand Labour Party, was done by a meeting o the union when membership was on a voluntary basis prior to the first award, which included the customary clause by the Court making it compulsory for all workers covered by the award to be members of the union."
