DAY IN PARLIAMENT

A SHORT SITTING

Proceedings in the House of Representatives yesterday were limited to formal business and the paying of tributes to the memory of the late Mr. David Jones, a former member and Minister of'the Crown. As is usual in the case of former Ministers, the House, after paying its respects, adjourned for the l-emainder of the day.

An urgent question by Mr. F. W. Doidge (National. Tauranga) led to a statement being made by the Minister of Finance (Mr. Nash) on the policy to be followed in relation to the importation of goods under the American Lease and Lend Act.

The opportunity was also taken during the sitting by the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) to make a statement on New Zealand's delegation to the International Labour Office Conference, to be held in New York next month. Mr. Fraser stressed the importance of this conference, particularly from the point of view of placing the Allied viewpoint on the war effort before the representatives of Central and South American Latin Republics.

The House adjourned shortly before 4 p.m. until 2.30 p.m. today.
