CRICKET SEASON
The Wellington Cricket Association's management committee hopes to open the cricket season on October 18, and at its meeting this week decided to ask clubs to make their entries by October 3.
It was reported by the chairman (Mr. J. D. Howitt) that there were prospects of two teams from Trentham (senior and junior) taking part in the competitions. Advice from the Central Military District stated that the association's letter regarding.. the entry !of cricket teams from Trentham in the Wellington Cricket Association's competitions had been forwarded .to Army headquarters for consideration, and also to the officer commanding, 10th' Heavy Regiment, Fort Dorset, in the event of that unit being interested.
A suggestion that an increase in the number of teams for the senior competition, be tried as an experiment this season, with a regrading after -the first round, was offered by Mr. J. E. Banks. The general opinion of members was that during the war period there should be a certain amount of elasticity. The chairman pointed out, in 'regard to the question of promoted teams retaining senior status, that measures adopted in the difficult times which they were facing would be purely to meet wartime conditions.
