The publican, Mr. V. Hallam, licensee of the Swan Hotel, Alresford, near Colchester, hung up a notice declaring: "The proprietor of this inn' has not consented to exclude any member of .his Majesty's forces from tlie bar." An assistant. Provost Marshal told Mr. Hallam that certain other young officers had complained about having to be in company with other ranks, and asked that the lounge be set apart for officers.
