NOW IN RUSSIA

WING OF THE R.A.F.

READY FOR ACTION

LONDON, September 14,

It was learnt in London this morning that a wing of the Royal Air Force has arrived in Russia, and that British airmen are now ready to fight at the side of our allies.

The first indication about this was given' by the Prime Minister in the House of Commons when he revealed that hundreds of British fighters had been sent to Russia and that many had already arrived. British planes flown by Soviet pilots have been in action in Russia, and British pilots will now be attacking.

The term wing is an elastic one, but it usually means a self-contained unit fully equipped with planes, pilots, and ground personnel, including maintenance, men. The actual number of squadrons which go to make any particular wing is not disclosed, for obvious reasons, and it is not disclosed whether the British planes are bombers or fighters.
