GOLDEN WEDDING

Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Hobman, residents of Kilbirnie for many years, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary recently.

Mr. Hobman was born at Greytown. His grandparents arrived in Wellington, New Zealand, by the Martha Ridgway in 1840, his father being born here in 1842. Mrs, Hobman came from Cornwall at the age of two years with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Tom, who settled at Dalefield. The marriage took place at Greytown. the late Rev. Mr. Rowse officiating.

Four of the bridesmaids, now Mrs. Hawke, Mrs. Greathead, Mrs. Pointon (Napier), and Mrs. Hall (Stoke), were present at a large evening gathering of the family and friends. The family consists of four sons, three daughters, and fourteen grandchildren, all of whom were present at the celebrations. A delightful party and a presentation was arranged for them in the afternoon by the ladies of the Maranui Methodist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Hobman were foundation members of this church and a feature of the afternoon was the presence of many other early members.

Congratulatory messages were received by Mr, and Mrs. Hobman from the Middle East and from friends and relatives all over New Zealand.

One of the oldest forms of weaving is tablet weaving, used in making Egyptian fabrics, and it is used eflect: '/in some of the new belts in red white, and blue.

Underneath a dark green wool , coat wear a lighter green thin wool dress cleverly tucked and treated on the bodice with Dolman sleeves.
