WELLINGTON WINNERS

COLLINS CUP COMPETITIONS

The Wellington Red Cross home nursing team retained the Collins Cup at the annual competition, which was held at Wanganui on Saturday. Six teams competed—two from Auckland, two from Wanganui, and one each from Wellington and Napier. Wellington's total score was 671, out of a possible 800. Auckland A were second with 657 points, Auckland .B and Wanganui A tied with 628 points; Napier gained 605 and Wanganui B 597.

The examiners were Miss Anderson (matron Taihape Hospital), Miss Corsby (matron Raetihi Hospital), Mrs. Evans (Hawera), Mrs. Stewart (Taihape), and Miss Crooke (Marton). The Wellington team comprised Misses O. Wilkinson (captain), E. Wilkinson, M. Walls, L. Reeve, N. Martin, and M. Leeks. The patient was little Fay Reeve. Details of marks gained by Wellington and Auckland are as follows, Wellington being mentioned . first:—Bed-making. 91, 94; sponging, 66. 82; temperatures, 80, 88; bandaging, 88. 93; oral, 79, 94; dressings, 92, 82: uniforms, 95. 70; deportment, 80, 63:'

The cup was handed to the winning -team by Dr. H. L. Widdowson, superin-tendemS-of^ the Wa?iganui. Public Hosipital. ■.■ In speaking briefly of the great value of. home nursing, he said that already Wanganui trainees had proved their worth in. staffing an emergency hospital which had to be operated for military camp patients. He said that if the same enthusiasm for health problems prevailed after the war much educative work could be done.
