(0.C.) AUCKLAND, This Day. West to north-west winds reaching gale force and accompanied by heavy falls of rain prevailed during the weekend in Auckland. Although only .61in of rain was recorded for the 48 hours ended midnight last night, the showers were of unusual severity. ! Branches were blown off many trees (when the wind reached a velocity of !58 miles an hour shortly before three ! o'clock on Saturday afternoon. There were several heavy showers in- the early hours of yesterday morning, and shortly before 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon the wind velocity was 52 miles an hour. * The wind changed to the south-west after 9' o'clock last night. At Pukekohe wireless masts were blown down, telephones were put out of order, and trees w^ere uprooted during the weekend's severe squalls. Employees of the Franklin Electric Power Board were busy on Saturday and yesterday restoring .services. r
