• GAME WITH HAWKE'S BAY . i . (P.A.). AUCKLAND, September 6. The Auckland .representative Bugby team won its annual fixture with the Hawke's Bay fifteen af Eden Park today, 19-9. The contest was closely fought In the first spell, when Hawke's Bay were playing with the wind, but after the interval the advantage clearly lay with Auckland. The match was held up by numerous stoppages, two replacements being required by both sides. An Auckland player, H. Grant, was ordered off after hard ruck play. Exchanges between the two sets of forwards we're very keenly fought and, though Hawke's Bay had the better of the scrums In the concluding stages, Auckland enjoyed superiority in this department. One of the best field goals ever kicked at Eden Park was gained by Brady, the Hawke's Bay full-back. Klngstone, the Auckland full-back, cleared from the goal line, the ball Just falling short of the touch-line about '30 yards up. Brady picked up and j made a kick which sailed between the posts, j The feat was the more meritorious considering the very strong wind blowing at the time. Clothier played a fine game at half-back for Hawke's Bay, and among the visiting forwards T. Reid, J. Brownlie, and Dockary were hard workers. The ■ young Auckland flveeighth, R. Brindsden, was sound, and Schubert proved speedy on the wing. ' Kingstone saved- reepatedly at full-back. Auckland hunted together as1 a pack and threw the ball about in the loose.. The All Black, H. F. McLean, who suffered a leg Injury about half-way through the first spell, played a fine game up to his retirement. . . ■ Tries for Auckland were scored by Boggs, Schubert, and Ryan, Kingstone converting two and kicking two penalty goals. For Hawke'a Bay J. Brownlie scored a try which was converted by Brady, who also kicked a field goal.
