(By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright.)
(Rec. 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 27. While the Iranian army concentrated against the British forces is offering token resistance, the Russians, pressing south in great numbers, are not being opposed, says the Teheran correspondent of the Associated Press of America. The British and Soviet Ambassadors, after an audience with the Shah, transmitted to their respective Governments an Iranian plea that the invasion should cease, and also a guarantee that all Germans would be expelled from Iran within a week except a few technicians who would be retained until substitutes are trained. A Bagdad report says that Indian, troops yesterday crushed a sharp Iranian counter-attack around the oil installations near the mouth- of the Karun River. The rapid British moves in Iran have resulted in a minimum of bloodshed, but the operations are by no means a kid-glove affaii. The Simla correI spondent of "The Times" says there is no truth in German stories that Iranian towns have been bombed, but British and Russian planes continue -to drop ! leaflets and to bomb troop concentrations and gun positions. The Royal Air Force heavily bombed the fortified Paitik Pass. The Teheran radio announced that British forces attacked Kermanshah ■ and also that three British columns j from Mosul are attempting to join up with the Russians at Tabriz.
