UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIP
OTAGCTS NARROW WIN
The New Zealand University cross-country championship was decided over a course of «% miles at Silverstream on Saturday, Otago winning by the narrowest of margins from Victoria. Continuous wet weather had made the course a quagmire, and as rain fell during the event the runners were given true test of -their ability. The contest between the individual runners was robbed of Interest through the inability of A. G. Kofoed (Auckland), winner of the two previous events, .to take part.. Owing to indisposition, he had to be an onlooker. ' The teams' race resulted:— , Otago (Coombes 2, Kirkwood 4, Stafford 6, Marshall 12), 24 points, 1; Victoria (O'Flynn 1, Rowberry 7, de la Mare 8, Daniel] 9). 25 points, 2'; \ Auckland (Thompson 3, Orange 5, Green 15, -Miller 20), 43 points, 3; Canterbury (Arden 10* McCutchan 11, Lovelock 14, Harris 16), 51 points, 4. The Dixon Trophy was presented to the winners by the donor, Mr. G. P. Dixon (president of the V.U.C. Club).
