PARENTS OVERJOYED

THE FIRST NEWS

INTERNED SINCE GERMAN

OCCUPATION ,

The parents of Miss Marks were overjoyed when they were shown the cablegram by a "Post" reporter today. It .was the first news they had received of their daughter's escape, and the first since a letter posted from Vittel, France, on May 5.

Miss Marks, who has just turned twenty-three, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Marks, Rodrigo ftoad, Kilbirnie. Having completed her studies at Victoria College, she decided upon taking up hairdressing as an occupation. She left New Zealand for Paris in May, 1939, and was interned, along

with many others, at the time of the German occupation. Her parents have had letters from her since then, the last being dated May 5 this year written from the camp at Vittel. In this she stated that she was well. A friend made a successful escape from the same camp about nine months ago and reached Zurich safely.

Although Mr. and Mrs. Marks always had the possibility of escape in their minds, especially after the friend had made good her escape, they had hardly dared to hope that their own daughter "would be successful in getting away to a neutral country.
