RENEWED ASSURANCES
(Rec.-2 p.m.) RUGBY, August 14. Captain Oliver Lyttelton, the British ...Minister of State in the Middle East, fhas sent a message to General de Gaulle stating that he is happy to repeat tiiat Britain has no interests in Syria or Lebanon except to win the war without encroaching on the position of France. "Both countries have pledged the independence of Syria and Lebanon," said the message. "We admit that France should have a predominant position, in Syria and Lebanon." General de Gaulle replied expressing his happiness at these renewed assurances. "Free France, that is France, is resolved to pursue the war by the side of Britain until'victory against the common "enemies is assured," he said.—B.O.W.
