Astral Flame leading the field the first time round in the Grand National Steeplechase at Riccarton yesterday. Though displaced for part of the race, he went on to ivin comfortably from Dozie Boy and Slayer, the favourite. Astral Flame was ridden by J. L. Strath' earn, an apprentice rider, who made history by being the first apprentice to win this important steeplechase, and it was also his his first ride over Grand National country. Left, the favourite, Treasurer, ridden by C. T. Wilson, after ivinning the Winter Cup at the CJ.C. Meeting at Riccarton yesterday.
